Great Lakes Engineering Group (GLEG) was selected by the MDOT Oakland TSC to perform full construction engineering services for the bridge work on the I-696 reconstruction project from I-275 to Lahser Road. This bridge portion of the project consists of 14 structures requiring rehabilitation and reconstruction including the 250′ long Pebble Creek three-sided arch concrete Culvert and EB/WB I-696 bridges over River Rouge completed using the 3D Bridge Information Modeling (BIM) digital delivery method. By using BIM, GLEG was able to improve collaboration with the contractor and designer, enhance efficiency by reducing errors and optimize project outcomes, as well as establish a guide for the future use of digital delivery by the MDOT.
Our team is performing a wide range of services on this project including providing oversight pertaining to bridge construction including but not limited to: Concrete beam end repairs; beam end cutting; rocker realignment; bearing repairs; structural steel repairs; joint replacement; heat straightening; steel cleaning and coating; epoxy overlay, silane treatment metal mesh panels, etc. GLEG also provided MDOT with as-needed project photography, website updates, and ombudsman services where we respond to public concerns through a dedicated 24-hour phone line.
