In 2024, GLEG performed both the routine underwater inspection on the Internation Bridge connecting Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan and Sault Ste. Marie Ontario. This underwater inspection was for fifteen (15) piers including detailed examination of the underwater surface of the piers and footings to locate potential existence of cracks, spalling and any failure of concrete and steel surfaces. This steel truss arch bridge has a suspended deck consisting of 2 separate spans (single arch on the Canadian Side and double arch on the US side) has a total length of 1.8 miles including approaches, is 28 feet wide, and was originally constructed in 1962.
GLEG utilized advanced coordination with several key stakeholders during the execution of this contract including: Internation Bridge Authority (IBA); United States Army Corps of Engineers (USACE); Brookfield Power; Untied States Coast Guard (USCG); United State Department of Homeland Security; Canada Border Services Agency; and the Canadian Coast Guard.
